Digital manufacturing is the design, development and production of physical parts using computer aided processes such as CAD, 3D printing, and programmable CNC machines. Thus, eliminating the need for 2D drawings, reducing time to production and ensuring repeatability of production.
DB ESG, in collaboration with Angel Trains, were the first in the UK to put 3D printed replacement parts into commercial service on a passenger train. Seven 3D printed grab handles and four armrests were fitted to a Class 165 train in the summer of 2019. Those parts remain in operation to this date.
Our Digital Manufacturing capabilities have grown exponentially since – investing heavily in people, technology and research & development. Our focus is on solving obsolescence – whether you can’t find the part you need or you’re facing long lead times, large minimum order quantities or huge prices rises, 3DB ESG can help!
This is bespoke, on-demand production. Getting you exactly what you need and exactly how many you need, meeting all the relevant requirements and safety standards, on time, for a fair price.
We combine cutting edge technologies such as 3D scanning and 3D printing with well-established manufacturing methods such as CNC machining and Casting to provide innovative obsolescence management and bespoke engineering solutions to get your vehicle back into service quicker, extend maintenance periods and reduce whole life costs..
Brand new, problem-solving parts known as ‘Engineering Solutions’ and jigs, fixtures and patterns are further use cases of our Digital Manufacturing technologies.
